What is Pay-to-Ride?
Currently Derby Public Schools only transports students who live more than 2.5 miles from their neighborhood school of attendance. Starting in the 2022-2023 school year certain families will be eligible to participate in a “Pay-to-Ride” program where they will pay a fee for their student to ride a USD 260 bus to school.
Who is Eligible for the Pilot Program?
The pilot program will be open to families who live within 2.5 miles from the home attendance school and live east of K-15 with students who attend Oaklawn or Cooper, and families that live west of K-15 with students who attend Derby Hills Elementary, Swaney Elementary or Derby Middle School. (School of attendance must be your neighborhood school, transfer students are not eligible.)
How Much Does it Cost?
$300 per student or $550 per family for the entire school year. If a family qualifies for free/reduced meals, they would be eligible for either a 50% fee reduction for reduced or full waiver of this
Does it All Have to be Paid Up Front?
No, families may complete a “Promise to Pay” form and make monthly payments.
If I am Eligible for Pay-to-Ride, How Do I Sign-Up?
Contact the Transportation Office at (316) 788-8450, we will verify your eligibility and get you started on the enrollment process.
Where Will My Student Get On or Off the Bus?
Over the summer transportation will build routes for the upcoming school year and designate a stop for your neighborhood. After signing up you will be contacted with the location of the bus stop and the time the bus will be at the stop in the morning. We ask that all students arrive at their stop early to ensure they do not miss their bus. We will not know exact afternoon drop off times, we will be able to give an estimate.
What are the Behavior Expectations for My Child?
Bus rider expectations are mailed to participating families over the summer, or upon enrollment in the pilot program during the school year. Students who violate rules receive a disciplinary phone call to parents from the transportation office. If the offense is severe enough to warrant temporary or permanent revocation of bus privileges there will not be any refund issued.
