Technology Incentive Program (TIP)

Derby Public Schools is proud to offer progressive opportunities to students in regards to technology. One-to-one devices are offered to all students in the district. In addition to new devices, Derby Public Schools is happy to share that a Technology Incentive Program (TIP) is available to middle school and high school families. Students are automatically a part of TIP.

The Derby School District continues to lead the way on technology integration into the learning process for our students, parents and staff. The benefits of integrating technology seamlessly into the learning process are undeniable, but the cost can be a challenge in these times of budget cuts and competing spending priorities. The goals of this proposal are to reduce the total cost of our technology initiatives for students and to provide opportunities for better digital citizenship for our stakeholders.

TIP includes components and incentives for all stakeholders in our one-to-one student device policy, including parents/guardians, students and the district.

Device Warranty/Insurance

To help ensure good standing in the Technology Incentive Program, each Chromebook is purchased with warranty/insurance coverage. This coverage takes care of any accidental damage, but obvious, malicious damage will not be covered and may cause loss of benefits of the TIP program.

Benefits

 Benefits to Students:

  • Using the same device from year to year encourages pride in ownership and better care of devices.
  • Ownership: TIP provides a pathway to permanently own their well-maintained, district-issued devices.
  • Summer take-home incentive: allows students to take their district issued devices home over the summer to participate in summer programs and optional curriculum.

Benefits to District:

  • This program brings benefits to the district including decreased costs to buy, manage and support the devices provided to our students.

Eligibility

Grade Level - Only certain grade levels and devices are eligible.

  • 8th graders who have had their devices for 3 years. (NOTE: Loaner devices will not be eligible for gifting)
  • 12th graders who have had their devices for 4 years. (NOTE: Loaner devices will not be eligible for gifting)

Good Standing - To remain in TIP, students need to be in good standing. This means no loss or damage where the district incurs a cost to repair or replace the device and appropriate use.

  • If a student damages a device, and there is no warranty/insurance, families can pay for the repair for the student to stay in good standing.
