Applying to Substitute Teach at Derby Public Schools
All applicants must be licensed by the Kansas State Department of Education, prior to applying. All applications must be submitted through our online application system

After you have submitted your application you will be contacted by email
with instructions, if Derby Public Schools wishes to continue the application process of adding you to our pool of substitutes teachers. Orientation is required prior to substituting.

We are accepting applications from individuals who have the following licenses:
• Emergency Substitute License
• Standard Substitute License
• Initial Teaching License
• Professional Teaching License
Applying to be a Substitute Nurse at Derby Public Schools
A substitute nurse in our district must have a current/valid
license as a "Registered Nurse" from the Kansas State Board of Nursing. All applications must be submitted through our online application system
HERE.
Select "Substitute Certified" and under the "Statement" section of the
application, please state you are applying to be a
substitute nurse.
After you have submitted your application you will be contacted by email
with instructions, if Derby Public Schools wishes to continue the
application process of adding you to our pool of substitutes nurses. An orientation is required prior to substituting.
Both substitute teachers and substitute nurses must also provide a completed
Certification of Health for Substitutes. Certification of Health form will be accepted if dated
within the past year.
Rate of Pay for All Teacher and Nurse Substitutes
• Full Day $105
• Half Day $52.50
• Long Term Substitute Full Day $150*

Applying to be a Classified Substitute
Classified Substitutes are individuals that substitute for our
permanent employees, which includes our paraprofessionals, food service
staff and custodians.
Must be 18 years of age, a high school
graduate/or GED and provide a Certification of Health for School Personnel.
All applications must be submitted through our online application system
HERE. Apply for "Substitute: Non-Certified".
After you have submitted your application you will be contacted by
email, if Derby Public Schools wishes to continue the process of adding
you to our pool of classified substitutes. An orientation is required
prior to substituting.
Types of Classified Substitutes and Rate of Pay (effective July 1, 2022)
- Custodial Sub - $11.82
- Food Service & Maintenance Subs - $10.74
- Instructional Support (except Health Room Aides) Subs - $10.10
- Special Education Subs - $10.74
- Health Room Aides - $12.04
- Building Clerical & District Clerical Subs - $11.61
