District Announcements
Did you know
Did you know that our school district contains more than a MILLION square feet of roof tops?  You may wonder why the proposed school bond includes replacement of 10 roofs (totaling 750,000 square feet.)  Storms in the early 90s as well as the tornado that devastated Wineteer Elementary caused damage requiring many roofs to be replaced within a short period of time.  Now, more than two decades later, 10 roofs which have had many repairs now require full replacement.  Including these critical items in the bond allows the district to better schedule these replacements and keeps buildings from receiving more damage from leaking roofs.
Bond Issue

Board of Education votes to move forward with the Master Plan/Bond Issue! This is an exciting time for our community as now everyone in the school district has a chance to be involved in the next steps. As an example, these improvements would cost the family who owns a $100,000 home less than $40 a year- that’s just $3.26 per month (less than the national average price for a gallon of milk which is currently $3.50). We want to be sure all citizens are informed about the project and what it will do; we want to be sure everyone understands why current economic conditions make it good timing for our school district.  We want to be sure to answer any questions anyone may have so please click on the right hand tab "Bond Issue" to find out more.

Board of Education Appreciation Month
January is Board of Education appreciation month across the state of Kansas.  Derby Public Schools would like to recognize the 2011-2012 Board of Education and all the hard work they put into providing governance to our schools.  Thank you Andreé Sisco, Carolyn Muehring, Matthew Joyce, Janet Sprecker, Don Parks, Tim Aiken and José Martinez.

This year, Derby Public Schools will be using a new notification system. Parents may change the way they receive notifications through their Family Access account, CLICK HERE for instructions.
Green/White Day
Derby is a place known for its spirit and community pride so we invite you to show it! We are encouraging everyone, including students, parents, faculty, and our entire community to demonstrate Derby High School pride by wearing green  each Friday. Whether it’s game day or not, we will be wearing green or white each Friday to create a cohesive support for the Derby community at large as well as for our students.
Random Drug Testing Policy
Derby Public Schools is implementing a Random Drug Testing policy at the start of the 2011-2012 school year that will be applicable to students in grades 7-12. The policy is designed to create a safe, drug free environment for students and assist them in accessing help when needed.
